About this event
"Balancing the Horizon: Reality and the Heart’s Origin”
Living a bustling life in the UK day after day,
rushing through work,
caring for family,
occupied by survival.
The Hong Kong that once was, the persistence that once was—What meaning do they still hold for you today?
That distant dream of pursuing democracy and freedom seems to exist in a parallel universe, no longer intersecting with daily life in any way.
Yet, during a quiet night, when you occasionally witness the absurd reality of Hong Kong,
do you still feel a trace of unwillingness to give up?
The belief from the beginning—rather than calling it a parallel universe where we will never meet again, can be better described as a balance that needs to be struck between reality and our aspirations.
This June, Birmingham Hongkongers has invited five groups of artists to express the conflicting emotions of Hong Kongers through their artwork. The artworks will be available for an online charity sale. All proceeds, minus costs, will be fully donated to the Bonham Tree Aid, in hope of helping our fellow Hong Kongers with practical actions. Let us carry our aspirations and take every step ahead well.
Participating artists include (in alphabetical order):
Lumli Lumlong

About Bonham Tree Aid — Following the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, one civil group after another dissolved. The "Bonham Tree Aid" (Bonham Tree) was established overseas to help imprisoned individuals and their families overcome immediate crises, hoping that prisoners and their families can live with dignity. Bonham Tree is currently supporting 124 households, with a total monthly support amount of £77,520. There is still a shortfall of £51,653 in monthly donations, and the financial situation is extremely critical. At the same time, 80 households are still on the waiting list, with an average waiting time of 3 years—a situation that causes deep despair. (Data as of 30 September 2025)
