About this event
Event introduction
The Madeline Tsui Guzheng Recital brings together teacher and students for a heartfelt celebration of Chinese musical heritage. Through a diverse programme of traditional and contemporary works, the recital aims to introduce the beauty of the guzheng to the wider community in the UK while providing young performers with a meaningful platform to grow in confidence and artistry.
Audiences will experience iconic masterpieces such as Fishing Boats Singing at Dusk and Fighting the Typhoon, alongside the UK premiere of the modern guzheng composition The Walker. These pieces showcase the expressive range of the instrument—from lyrical, serene melodies to powerful, dramatic techniques.
Co-organised by Serene Strings Academy and the West Midlands HongKonger Support CIC, and supported by multiple community partners, the event also reflects the shared cultural spirit and resilience of Hongkongers in the UK. It is a celebration of music, cultural exchange, and the dedication of young learners who continue to explore their heritage through the arts.
